Arequipa, the White City of Peru, is set against the backdrop of towering volcanoes and colonial-era architecture built from white volcanic stone. Its the most European looking city in Peru. The is probably the crown jewel of Peru - don't expect any other city here to get nicer. It’s clean, affordable, and almost never rains. With solid altitude (2,300m), Arequipa is a great place to train while enjoying a laid-back vibe and epic mountain views. The central district is compact, safe, and full of affordable cafes and parks perfect for nomadic work and movement sessions.
Tajmani Hostel – Sweet budget hostel featuring a rooftop gym and basic free breakfast. Free water is provided. Solid lockers in the main dorm with padlock clasps. Small but highly functional kitchen on the main floor. Plenty of space to stretch, do some basic calisthenics, or chill out. Ideally located less than one block from the main pedestrian andador (walking street).
Parque Simón Rodriguez – Best-known calisthenics setup in Arequipa, with multiple bars and open space. Frequented by locals and a few travelers in the know.
Strong Gym – A large commercial gym just past the main pedestrian walking area, on the same street. Squat racks and Olympic barbells available for serious lifting. Entry was only 5 soles.
City Hikes – Misti and Chachani dominate the skyline and offer serious altitude training potential. Shorter city walks and stair climbs are available too, starting from near the riverbank.
Arequipa’s air is dry and thin, which might take some adjustment—especially if you’re just arriving from sea level. There’s not much nightlife for party animals - perfect of longer term nomads looking for a place to settle and grind. English is less commonly spoken. For nomads seeking clarity and calm with year round sunshine, Arequipa delivers.
